Fluid Art is an abstract painting technique that involves diluting acrylic paints with a liquid medium to create organic flows and spectacular marbled effects. To get started, you’ll need acrylic paint, a pouring medium (or just diluted vinyl glue), a canvas, and a few tumblers. The magic happens when colors blend naturally across the canvas, creating patterns that are impossible to intentionally replicate.
There are several variations of this technique: the “dirty pour” consists of superimposing the colors in a single cup before pouring them all at once; the “swipe” uses a spatula to spread one color on top of others; and the “ring for” creates hypnotic concentric circles. The addition of cells — those small oil bubbles that appear on the surface — is achieved by incorporating a few drops of silicone oil into your mixture. Each technique offers a unique result, which makes Fluid Art as unpredictable as it is addictive.
